Cur-ATE: Betye Saar – Eclectic American Modern CuisineSeptember 7, 2019
Sunday at 10/6 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm
Enjoy a special evening dedicated to the love of food and art while exploring the museum.
Start the evening with a tour of the exhibition Betye Saar: Call and Response by Maite Gomez-Rejon of Artbites. Internationally known, L.A.-based artist Betye Saar has constantly utilized found objects to create thought-provoking and engaging artworks addressing issues of race, gender, and spirituality. This is the first exhibition at a California museum to address her entire career and the first anywhere to focus on the relationship between her sketchbooks and her finished works.
The show also presents some of Saar’s travel sketchbooks containing more finished drawings that relate to leitmotifs seen throughout her oeuvre including hearts, eyes, hands, lions, and celestial bodies. Then move to Ray’s & Stark Bar to enjoy a dinner specially designed by Chef Phillip Martin, inspired by the eclectic themes of the artist’s work.
