Cookbook Club: Fannie Merritt Farmer

Saturdays 12/1 from 10:30am to 1:30pm

New School of Cooking Pasadena

Each month we discuss a significant cookbook and prepare a group meal adapted from its recipes. Here’s what’s on the Cookbook Club menu this month:

The Boston Cooking School Cook Book by Fannie Merritt Farmer, 1896
A true visionary, Fannie Farmer self published her Boston Cooking School Cook Book in 1896 and changed the way cookbooks were written forever. She was the first cookbook author to include standardized measurements in her recipes and to distinguish between recipes and directions. (Were it not for her, we might still be using recipes that call for “butter the size of an egg.”) She also taught nutrition at Harvard University. ($115)

Sign up for all three fall Cookbook Club classes at a discounted rate of $330.

Classes meet at New School of Cooking’s Pasadena campus.
525 East Colorado Blvd, Pasadena 91101

Though reading the book prior to each class date is not necessary, it is available for sale here.
