Women in the Collections: Elena Zelayeta

Celebrate Mexican Independence Day with Maite as she explores the life and work of Elena Zelayeta through The Huntington's rare cookbook collection in this virtual cooking class. Born in Mexico City in the late 19th century, Zelayeta moved to San Francisco and ran a restaurant, owned a frozen food business, and in the 1950s, now blind, was the first Latina with a cooking show on television.

Learn more about her story and cook a meal inspired by the many pages of her cookbooks.
