The Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Garden’s "Taste of Art" is back for the virtual series, Women in the Collections. In this session, Gomez-Rejón focuses on The Settlement Cook Book by Lizzie Black Kander.
At the turn of the twentieth century, Kander founded The Settlement House, a community center in Milwaukee, WI which helped recent Jewish and Italian immigrants succeed in their new land. The Settlement Cook Book was published to raise funds for the center. For the Jewish community, it was a recognition that their culture was included in American culture.
The class begins with the history behind the cookbook with a cooking demonstration from its pages.
