A Huntington favorite, "Taste of Art" with Maite is going virtual and is focusing on a women in the Huntington’s collection, starting with a series dedicated to the collection of historical cookbooks. Each class will focus on a significant cookbook authored by a woman in the Library's collection, will weave in images from the Art Museum and Botanical Garden’s collections, and include the hands-on cooking of one or two dishes from the chosen cookbook.
West Coast Cook Book
With its push for using local, fresh ingredients, Helen Evan Brown's "West Coast Cook Book" of 1952 laid the foundation to what became known as California cuisine. Brown gave historical context and social significance to her recipes transforming cookbook writing into a scholarly endeavor. Her 500-volume collection of California cookbooks were acquired by the Huntington Library in 1983.
